Qualifications, Responsibilities & Application Details

The MREA Communication Coordinator will support the organization and management of MREA publications, web development, graphic design and outreach materials – including advertising, marketing materials (newsletters, brochures, bumper stickers, fact sheets, logos, conference programs, posters and other handouts), training publications and any other promotional materials. The Communication Coordinator will handle the daily management of MREA websites, assist with social media, assist with creating ads for MREA publications and handle the layout and content for MREA newsletters (paper and electronic). The Coordinator will also develop press releases and all public relations and publicity materials and handle incoming requests for information from the media.

Finally, the Communication Coordinator will work with MREA Leadership to create a 3-year communication plan guide the content, style, and delivery of MREA promotion and advertising.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Administration
• Participate in MREA staff meetings, Board of Director meetings, and planning sessions as needed
• Participate in the Communication working group (and others as needed)
2. Publications
• Monthly Electronic Newsletter
o Take/collect/caption all photos, organize logos and other graphic elements
o Coordinate with staff on writing and gathering necessary articles
o Design, layout, and edit publication
o Develop and manage mailing lists
• Printed Publications
o Produce Energy Fair Program Guide and MREA Training Catalogue, working with staff, partners, advertisers, and sponsors to develop content and design
o Produce conference programs for the Solar Powering the Midwest Conference Series
o Develop printed promotional materials to support MREA initiatives
3. Web Sites
• Assist with updating and maintaining MREA websites
• Work with MREA IT Manager and staff to improve website search engine optimization
4. Social Media
• Work with MREA Communications Working Group to regularly post on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites
• Develop and employ strategies to grow number of followers on social media sites
• Work with Membership Director and Events Coordinator to use social media to support the growth of MREA membership and promote MREA activities
5. Media Inquiries
• Write, edit, distribute, track and archive MREA press releases
• Create press packets for special events
• Create and maintain request forms for press releases, ads and published materials
6. Communications Plan
• Work with MREA leadership and staff to develop a organizational communications plan that defines priority audiences, messaging, mechanisms, and style to define communications strategies as part of our 3-year strategic planning process
7. Human Resources
• Participate in staff evaluations, meetings, staff work days, and professional development days as appropriate
• Manage assistants and/or interns as needed

A successful candidate will:
• Be results oriented and self directed, with a passion for the MREA’s mission
• Have proven project management experience
• Have a portfolio of past communications and graphic design work
• Have proficiency using a variety of computer programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Word press), demonstrating proficiency in word processing, database, and social media
• Be able and willing to work additional hours during MREA public events
• Be an excellent written and verbal communicator who can promote the MREA’s mission to the public and market stakeholders
Preference will be given to candidates who:
• Have a bachelors or other advanced degree in a related field, including education, communication, marketing, public relations or journalism
• Have 5+ years of professional experience in communications, graphic design, and website management

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience.
