Developed by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) and the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI), this six-hour course discusses permitting and installation requirements for residential photovoltaic (PV) systems, with emphasis on key inspection points. The course focuses on the requirements of the 2011 NEC while highlighting 2014 NEC changes, and also discusses the requirements of the IFC, IGCC, IECC, IRC and IBC.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Identify Photovoltaic (PV) components
Recognize PV system permitting and plan requirements
Review structural considerations for PV systems including roof loads, wind loading and anchorage
Recognize PV product listing requirements for modules, inverters and other PV equipment
Highlight key inspection points
Examine 2014 National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements for PV installations
Identify other relevant codes including: 2012 IFC , 2012 IRC, 2012 IBC, 2012 IGCC and 2012 IECC
Locate online resources for PV inspection and permitting
