There is a high level of interest in ultra-efficient buildings, such as those using Passive House design techniques or gearing up to be Net Zero. These structures require envelopes with substantially enhanced insulation values, which present challenges for the construction process. In addition, HVAC systems can be downsized and simplified, but should include ventilation and humidity control systems.
This workshop will review the state-of-the-art in the latest insulation techniques, which often involve adding a substantial layer of foam on the exterior. The added foam often requires additional structural measures, which will be covered. A major focus will be HVAC system design, revised duct layout options, and humidity control systems. While the insulation systems for these homes are more expensive, there is savings to be gained on HVAC.
