Occupation: Senior Design and Engineering Specialist, Sungevity Inc. Oakland, CA and Photovoltaics for Telecomm instructor for Applied Professional Training (APT) inc.
Experience: 1.5 years as PV Design Engineer. I managed a team of 7 Designers and 3 drafters. I�m also the primary trainer for new hires and have trained several contractors on PV Design. 2.5 years of PV installation in residential and commercial systems. One year of residential, domestic solar hot water and Pool heating installation exp. I�m a National Electrical Code Expert. I�m good at working with tools and electricity. I�m also good and fast at 2D drafting in AutoCAD.
Objective: Lead a fulfilling career. I would like to design commercial and utility scale PV systems and/or become a power engineer with a specialization in engineering the grid for the future of distributed generation management and efficiency. I have the skills to design any size PV system now. I�m also interested in becoming a Lineman. I grew up with a lineman as my neighbor and I�ve done many side projects with him. I would like to be a lineman for several years and then move into a power engineering position or eventually move to the Sierra foothills and be a lineman.
Education: Two AA degrees from Palomar College, San Marcos CA; Legal Studies and Liberal Arts and Sciences. I�m currently working on the Electrical Technology AS degree from Laney College, Oakland. NABCEP Certified PV Installer No. 091110-209. USGBC LEED Green Associate ID # 10603981. I passed the law and trade examinations for the CA C-46 solar contractor�s license, but have not satisfied the work experience requirement of 4 years at a journeymen level. I�ve since gained much more time on the job and plan to reapply shortly. I�ve also taken (2) semesters of National Electrical Code classes, a Commercial Wiring class and an International Building Code class at community college. I�ve attended numerous training sessions for PV including classes with John Wiles, Bill Brooks, Marvin Hamon, every class through the CA Center for Sustainable Energy in San Diego, and a 16 hour course on grid tied inverters at SMA Solar Academy.
About me: I live in the Fruitvale area of Oakland, ride bicycles and like doing electrical work. I find hard work satisfying and like construction because I can see what we�ve done and like energy because it is the base of value. I read trade magazines and technical manuals for fun.
